Real Time Strategy
Starcraft 2 isn't exactly my first RTS -- but it's the first one I wanted to be good at. I played the original Command and Conquer -- beyond moving the units around and building things, I never grasped any strategy or tactics -- let alone combat in general. I was 13 at the time, and at 16, I was introduced to Starcraft. I remember, I was in Shanghai at the time studying at a Fudan University. My cousins and his friends urged me to play Starcraft -- they even bought me a copy -- a pirated one. They said we could play after I went back to the states. We only talked to each other in Chinese -- but I remember him writing down the cheat code "Show Me the Money" on the thin crappy paper tucked in the sleeve of the all ready cracking CD jewel case. That was the last of it that was in English though. I tried to play it once and gave up.
Of course, starting High School -- my friends were playing Starcraft, but I never tried to play it again. Flash forward to early 2010. I had a copy of Command and Conquer 3: Tiburium Wars. The game still looked about the same to me minus some fancier cut scenes. The boyfriend guy had some unnatural obsession with the game. While normal people looked at funny videos of cats or college pranks, he studied Starcraft replay videos. I guess I couldn't laugh at him too much since I watched WoW videos and was working on my 3rd level 80.
And now.
SC2 Has been out for a bit over a week.
I'm hooked.
Since I can't play it all day, I'll have to settle for blogging about it instead.
